Newberg seized nearly 77,000 pounds of marijuana valued at $76.5 million

Nearly 77,000 pounds of marijuana were confiscated by the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office in Newberg, worth $76.5 Million on Tuesday.

The address in the 1400 block NE Stone Road was subject to a search warrant. According to the sheriff’s Office, approximately 76,930 lbs of processed marijuana were seized. There were no licenses or permits to grow or process marijuana at the address.

According to the sheriff’s office, the property was used as a processing center. Evidence recovered by investigators indicates that this is part of large-scale organized drug trafficking organizations.

Investigators discovered multiple guns and $80,000 worth of cash. Also found were receipts that show large wire transfers between Oregon and Michoacan, Mexico. 

On the East Coast, the retail value of the marijuana is estimated at $269 million.

Five Newberg men were detained on the property. They were brought before a judge on Wednesday at 1:30 PM for unlawfully manufacturing a marijuana item and illegal possession of marijuana.:

  • Ulises Valdovinos Chavez, 28
  • Luis Guerrero Rubio, 32
  • Jose Alfredo Esquivel, 30
  • Miguel Angel Valdovinos Chavez, 23
  • Francisco Franco Rodriguez, 23

All five of them are currently in Yamhill County Jail. Next court date for the group is Oct. 26 at 1:35 p.m.

According to the sheriff’s Office, it was their largest marijuana seizure.
