Project History
The Lane County Farmers Market returned to Eugene’s Park Blocks in the 1970s and has become a vital source of quality local produce and a cornerstone of downtown activity. Although the Farmers Market made the most of its space, it was limited by the layout and limitations of the site that made it difficult for them to grow and realize their full potential. Farmers Market has been expressing a desire for a bigger, more visible, year-round market downtown for many years. The NW Park Block, which was previously covered by a parking garage, needed to be revitalized and redeveloped.
Eugene created, designed, and built the permanent pavilion. The expanded plaza is located in the Park Blocks. This will allow the market not only to be open all year but also to provide a great community resource for hosting events and allowing the community to gather for many years.
The Pavilion design was part of the Town Square Concept Plan, completed in 2020. This plan aims to reimagine the public space located at the intersection 8th Avenue/Oak Street.
